Episode 13 - Amanda Benson

Trap Money Benny. First of all, what a great nickname. And even better because it comes from the same song that gave me the nickname Kiki, and was therefore my ‘point scoring’ song that played every time I did a good thing in a game at Mulhouse. Turns out Trap Money Benny is a real person, “a little white rapper” according to Benny. So she couldn’t get that instagram handle. But the important thing is she tried.

And speaking of trying, this go-getter used lockdown and quarantine to start her own business. Whats that? Netflix and chill? Hang out all day in your pajamas eating ice cream? Hibernate until the apocalypse is over? Nope. Not this girl. Use that time to start a budding empire. I love it. So if anyone out there needs some serious personal styling, Benny is your girl. Trust me, just look at her sneaker collection. She knows whats up.

And also impressive, the fact that she has no problem speaking out about whats right. And whats wrong. And something that is still very wrong with our society is over-sexualizing women. As female athletes, we get used to being told where to go and when and what to wear and even what to say sometimes. And its hard to see where the line is between your job as an athlete, and whats actually got nothing to do with your performance. Like posing for a lingerie or swimsuit calendar shoot. Its the norm in Europe, but should it be. Its 2020. Maybe its time we rethink the status quo.

K bye.
